Are you in Australia’s hottest reno suburb? Demand for tradies soars in these locations
20 January 2022 (Sydney, Australia) – Australia’s largest online tradie marketplace, hipages, has revealed the top suburbs for tradie demand following a record number of Australians listing home improvement jobs on the platform and app last year.
Known for connecting homeowners and its 31,000+ trusted tradies, hipages has curated its Hot Spot Suburbs list based on the volume of jobs posted by homeowners between the 1st of January and 31st of December 2021.
Results show that despite a higher number of lockdowns than any other Australian state, homeowners in Victoria’s suburbs had the highest demand for tradies nationally with Point Cook, Berwick, and Craigieburn taking out the top three spots on the list. This is thought to be a reflection of the ‘lockdown home improvement boom’ as jobs surged to a year high in October and November last year.
Stuart Tucker, Chief Customer Officer at hipages explained, “Post lockdown and now into the new year, demand for tradies remains at large. This is fantastic for our hipages tradie customers who are able to snap up the job leads from small repairs, cleaning, and removals, to larger renovations and builds. However, our message to homeowners is to list now for work that you’re planning, particularly if you’re in a suburb where demand is high.
“We experience a job being posted by a homeowner every 20 seconds on average, so we’re used to spikes in demand but there are some trades that are more sought after than others right now so you want to ensure that you’re having discussions early.”
Get in Quick for Plumbers, Sparkies & Fencers
hipages also revealed the top trades in demand nationally on its platform and app over the past 12 months. In regards to the volume of jobs posted, the top 10 sought-after trades were handymen, plumbers, electricians, fencers, painters, cleaners, builders, concreters, tilers, and carpenters.
When hipages reflected on year-on-year growth for jobs posted by homeowners in the same time period, it was evident that there was a boom in major refurbishments with Australians turning to hipages from the early planning stages.
The platform experienced a year-on-year increase of 56% in the number of homeowners posting jobs for project managers, followed by a 41% YOY increase for landscape architects, and 29% YOY for kitchen designers. hipages also experienced a YOY increase of jobs for attic access (29%), pool builders (22%), landscape and gardening (22%), home theatres (10%), and extensions and additions (6%).
Cleaning also boomed on the platform over the past 12 months with a 40% YOY increase in jobs posted. This was followed by a 35% YOY increase for commercial cleaning. Window cleaning experienced a 35% YOY increase for jobs.
In regards to traditional trades, there was a 27% YOY increase in jobs for carpenters and a 25% YOY increase for bricklayers. Joiners and handymen both had a 16% YOY increase.
Looking forward
hipages historical data predicts what trades are also likely to be in big demand in the coming weeks.
“Keeping cool is going to be a top priority for many, so demand for air conditioning is forecast to peak as the mercury climbs. The same goes for irrigation systems and shade sail installation as homeowners look to keep their gardens hydrated and outdoors areas protected, and pest control as the creepy crawlies make their way into our homes,” said Stuart.
